What can I say about the Hong Kong trip?.....A fantastic trip where the kids and adults loved every minute of it. The fact that we were living in the centre of where the Chinese themselves were living allowed us to see their culture up close.
For the children on the trip it was very educational to live within a different culture. This type of experience can not be equalled with a few weeks at school studying the culture!
The trips that Mr Darren Holmes had arranged for us were fantastic. Every trip was different and enjoyed by all from the youngest child to the oldest parent.
Imagine a trip that starts with 6 speed boats taking the entire group (42 in total) racing along the water between lots of tropical islands with fantastic scenery on a hot balmy day. Then finally arriving at our destination – an almost completely deserted tropical island with a gently sloping white sandy beach about a mile long with no-one except XS students and parents on it…..It had 2 small café type shacks in the middle of the island selling hot and cold food and drinks. After relaxing for awhile Mr Holmes took a 2 hour training session which ended with a massive charge into the sea…..what a rush!
This was followed with a game of touch rugby and then lunch. Then it was down to some serious relaxation on the beach and in the sea. All 42 of us agreed that it was the best day of the 2 week trip and that it was the best day most of us have ever had in our entire lives (oh and did I mention that the guys bought all the beer on the island! – now is anyone surprised by that??! Eh NO!)
And then there was the day at Disneyland.....
Now on to the main reason for the trip – the tournament….The tournament which included both team and individual events was very well organised. All the students performed amazingly well from the youngest at 7 years old (Ross Hamilton) to the oldest veteran at 50yrs old. We took an amazing amount of medals – the most for any individual club or country:
52 medals
27 of which were gold
Well done to everyone who competed on the day. I am glad all the extra training paid off. And thanks also to all the parents who helped to support the trip in many different ways.
